I have been in work-transition mode for the past year and slowed down in launching a video campaign on line by a few hiccups. As I am working my way through all the frustration, I have somewhat isolated myself, as I hunker down and work at rectifying the situation.
A long-time friend of mine calls me every week or so to check in and see how everything is going. She genuinely cares about what I am working on and working towards. We became friends over 15 years ago when we worked together-before husbands, before children, before our dreams really took shape. She is brilliant and bright and a wonderfully devoted mother. She is one of my closest and most trusted friends.
Over the years our friendship has strengthened. She is one of my greatest advocates and fans. When I share all of my grandiose ideas for how I want to change the world with her-she just smiles and says, “If anyone can do it, you can.”
The other day we met for our quarterly “coffee to catch up” (even though we both drink tea). The local Starbuck’s has welcomed us many times before – but this time was extra special. We caught up about our children, our husbands, our in-laws and then she turned to me and said, “Now tell me about you and work. How can I help you?”
I launched in with all the excitement of a child-telling her about the 15 different things I want to accomplish. She listened with intensity and calmness – a wonderful balance that served me well. She gently encouraged me to focus in on starting this blog and reminded me of my mission to honor the amazing women I encounter who impact my life in some meaningful way-every day. I told her about my tag line and how it inspired me to start this whole feel good movement, “because every person has the power to make a difference in the world…that one person is you!”
By the time I had returned home – my email Inbox had 3 messages from her. A couple of articles and stories to inspire me and this,
“I met with this amazing woman today – vibrant, caring, beautiful and oh, so smart. Every time I visit with her, I come away wanting to change the world – She has the power to inspire.”
And she signed off with the tag line I shared with her word-for-word, “Remember every person has the power to make a difference in the world…that one person is you!”
I cried reading it. Her words lifted me and made me feel grateful for her friendship…it was just what I needed to hear! It also served as a reminder of just how powerful this simple idea is – tell an amazing woman in your life that you believe she is amazing!
