Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is start.
* start exercising
* start a family
* start doing what you love
…you get the picture.
Starting is a challenge because it requires ACTION.
We are great at dreaming, thinking about things, wishing things were better, or different, but when it comes to starting something we innately understand that it involves change from status quo…change from what we are currently doing.
It involves us stepping out of our comfort zone.
Starting often goes hand in hand with stopping some other behavior that isn’t working for us. Just as you can’t open your eyes and close them AT THE SAME TIME, you can’t start working your dream, if you don’t stop procrastinating.
The part of the equation that stalls us is fear of the unknown, feeling unprepared-like we just don’t know everything we need to know yet to “do it,” which really boils down to a lack of trust in ourselves and our ability to make it through.
I can tell you this, regardless of what we do, we learn as we go and in doing so, we gain trust in ourselves and our ability to handle whatever comes our way. Pick anything; parenting, marriage, writing a book, learning to ride a bike. You can’t know everything there is to know before you begin. Life doesn’t work that way. In every situation, we learn as we go. It’s the gift of experience.
But the key word is GO – we’ve got to get GOing.
So go ahead and set your sites on the horizon. Open your eyes. Unfurl your sails and let the wind of action set you free. You are smarter and more resourceful than you give yourself credit for. You’ll learn new skills, maybe experience a touch of choppy water, but just like all the other great adventurists, you’ll adjust your sails as you go.
And as long as you keep your eyes on the shore, on your destination, you WILL arrive!
But only if you start, if you set sail and leave the shore, can you explore the beauty and grandeur of new islands and a life you LOVE living.
Let’s start together shall we.
Keep me updated on what you are doing and how it’s going and I will do the same. And for heavens sake, if you need a bit of coaching, or a little nudge don’t hesitate to ask me for help. Deal? Deal!
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Never stop believing one person can make a difference…that one person is YOU!
With love and gratitude,
