We just came off a long weekend here in Canada, celebrating our beautiful country’s 150th anniversary (such a youngster!).
I spent the weekend doing a mix of work, visiting family, goal-setting, more work and some amazing moments shared with my family! The benefit of being an entrepreneur is that you get to pick and choose the moments you can unplug and enjoy LIFE full on!!!
We live on the lake, in the city, and it feels like we have the best of both worlds here – city life that feels like cottage living, without the crazy commute.
As the sun was setting last night it was the most spectacular mix of pinks and blues and whites that seemed to be plucked from a Pantone colour chart. On clear days, this is the sunset I glimpse through my window as I am working in my office or fixing dinner or doing some other task that keeps me busy. But tonight…tonight was different. We marched out to the cliff, positioned our chairs on the point and lined them up beside each other where we sat staring out into the great expanse of water before us, like we were watching a movie.
And that is exactly what it felt like. The sky was a moving picture whose colors intensified as the sun fell further below the horizon. The rays of pink and white in the distance shot up from nowhere, puffy white clouds billowed in the sky above us making different shapes we laughed about as our imaginations took over and we saw dancing horses with cupid riding on his back, snakes and ogres. The reflection of the colors on the water reached closer to us as the sun dropped and the pink color took over the lake.
These images don’t fully capture the intensity of colours that the naked eye sees.
I am crying as I write about this experience thinking about what a gift that moment was, about all the beauty that surrounds us daily, and the gracious and giving way that nature wraps her arms around us and provides such a feast for the eyes that it leaves you in wonder and awe. When we take the time, to take it in.
So today, I am grateful for the beauty and wonder of something as simple and majestic as a sunset. I am grateful that we all took the time to unplug from life and gather on the point to watch the day say it’s goodbye with such stunning fanfare. It’s amazing how the little things we taking for granted, that are all around us daily, can have the greatest impact on our soul.
When was the last time you STOPPED everything and just took in the beauty of the world around you? I challenge you to do it today…it will ground you and fill you up with JOY and gratitude!!!
Never stop believing one person can make a difference…that one person is YOU!
