Day 21 of 30 days of gratitude…new adventures!

My hubby and I love to expose the girls to new adventures! We are big believers that it is the single greatest way for them to learn and grow, not to mention the memories that are made

We are not big “campers” but had a beautiful opportunity to visit a camp in Algonquin Park (more on that in tomorrow’s blog). We have arrived on our first visit to this beautiful park and have already enjoyed such an amazing time, including a boat ride from shore and a canoe ride, along with a tour of the amazing Camp Tanamakoon we are visiting for the night.

So today, this glorious Sunday, I am so very grateful for this awesome new adventure to Algonquin Park!!

Day 20 of 30 days of gratitude…forgiveness!

When I UN-intentionally missed my 20th day of gratitude yesterday, after an incredibly busy day,  I woke up early this morning in a self-induced panic. Followed by a moment of reconciliation that allowed me to come to terms with the fact that nothing horrible was going to happen if I missed the day, life would continue and I would pick up where I left off and aim to get back on track with my little 30-day experiment. In that moment, was born the idea for day 20 of gratitude, realizing the gentle art of forgiveness. Something I have had to apply to myself and countless others in a variety of situations.

Forgiveness frees us from the confines of negative judgment (mostly towards ourselves). Forgiveness can also free us from blaming others, from being a victim and harbouring negative energy. Forgiveness recognizes the “human-ness” of ourselves and others and creates a sense of “letting go” of the bad feelings that can bog us down, in order to make room for the GOOD, to try again, only stronger and better, to love ourselves despite our imperfections.

Forgiveness is an incredibly powerful, liberating exercise!

It isn’t “weak” to forgive, and in situations that tug at your heart or cause you pain, forgiveness doesn’t mean you condone “bad behaviour” or compromise your values, it means you recognize it for what it is and choose to release it. Like a big, beautiful sigh, you let it go and move on, stronger for it!

Today, I am grateful for the beautiful, gentle, kind and powerful art of forgiveness….towards myself and others, for both small and bigger misgivings.

Day 19 of 30 days of gratitude…spontaneous silliness!

We just had some Hi8 films from our OLD video camera converted over to DVD’s to view (will be another blog). WOW does time ever go back fast. I shed some tears thinking about how little my babies were and how quickly they have grown. Makes me think about how important it is to ENJOY every moment and take time to just be plain silly – cause that’s what you will remember looking back.

Which brought me to the other day and taking my girls shopping for their birthday. Every day is an adventure with these girls. They fill my life with joy and spontaneous silliness. They make me laugh with their uninhibited brilliance and desire to just have FUN – wherever and whenever the mood strikes them!

LOVE THIS!!! (sorry not sure how to get it to save in here right side up)

Grateful for spontaneous silliness!!! It’s THESE kinds of moments that leave us all with smiles from ear to ear and the phrase, “Thank you for such a fun day,”  repeated to each person, from each person.

When was the last time you did something spontaneous and silly?

Day 18 of 30 days of gratitude…the rain

As I sit and type this blog it is…raining!

Yes it’s also foggy and grey. Normally this would make me feel less energized, even a little bummed-out! But not today!

While it has been a very rainy spring and summer so far, as I look outside my office window to the lush green grass and vegetation I cannot help but feel grateful for the nourishment the rain is providing our beautiful yard.

When the sun comes out…I will be more than grateful for that…but for now…I am embracing the beauty of the rain and how it fuels such magnificent growth, colours and blooming! Earlier today I watched as a little robin bathed in a puddle on my driveway. Nature amazes me…there is a meaning for everything.

Is there something going on around you, even in nature, that usually throws you off and by looking at it in a different way you can find the beauty in it and feel grateful?

Day 17 of 30 days of gratitude…Ava and Elle!

Today is an extra special day!!!

It is the day we celebrate Ava and Elle, our AMAZING twins daughters’ 15th birthday.

If I were to assign the faces of a rainbow to human beings, it would be these two special young ladies. They fill our lives, our homes and our hearts with non-stop laughter and smiles. They are like little old ladies sipping tea and sharing life (not even kidding we often catch them chatting and laughing over tea).

They are so much alike (of course, they ARE identical), but yet they are so different with their own unique traits and strengths! They are kindness, love and joy personified! How we got so lucky I have no idea, all I can say is that today, and every single day, I am beyond grateful to be the momma to these two rays of light!!! So proud of who you are!!

Happy birthday my precious ones – you are so very loved xo xo

Day 16 of 30 days of gratitude…my dog!

Hershey Chocolate MacGregor is my chocolate lab.

He is 10 years old but still acts like a puppy (re-read the line above – he is a LAB!).

The other day he got his tail caught in the screen door.  It was a small gash that my hubby and I doctored up and tried to keep clean while he kept chewing off the dressing and bandages.

Today I had to take Hershey to the vet to get his tail checked out. We left the appointment with a shaved tail, a new dressing on his wound and the “cone of shame.”

All the while this sweet little guy has been wagging that darn wounded tail all over the place. During the entire appointment he let out one tiny little wince when he had blood taken. He locked eyes with me while he sat so still as I calmly assured him he was going to be okay and rubbed his head.

He is charging through the house to lay next to one of us, or ON our feet, like a rhino barreling through the forest with his cone, creating mass destruction (knocking over tables, books,  ploughing into doors and legs…), but all he wants is comfort and love.

I love this guy so much. He is PURE kindness and joy. And today, cone of shame and all, I have so much gratitude for our big bundle of chocolatey-sweetness, our boy Hershey.

Day 15 of 30 days of gratitude…home!

I am back home after my weekend 3-day retreat and leadership training!

Back to my husband, my children, the dog, my office, the kitchen, my bed, my bathroom….my home!!!

Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz” sure had it right when she clicked her ruby-red shoes together and repeated, “There’s no place like home.”

Wizard of Oz - there's no place like home

I LOVE the adventures, the amazing friendships and fellowships and the unbelievable personal growth…and…I LOVE returning home. Refreshed! Recharged! Renewed…and HOME!

So happy to be back with my family in my divine sanctuary…today I am grateful to be home!
