Day 30 of 30 days of gratitude…LOVE!

Well here we are! The final day of 30 days of gratitude, but of course, it isn’t really the end. Everyday there is so much to be grateful for, this is just a tiny fragment of the beauty of my life over the past 30 days!

On top of these posts, there were the regular trials and tribulations of life, including hot flashes (wickedly awesome change of life – AYE AYE AYE), a tragic young death in our family, a celebration of a beautiful friend’s birthday who died far too young, challenging times and everything in between. Because, after all, that IS LIFE!

I KNOW first-hand the power gratitude has to transform us. To change our circumstances, our fortune, our love life, our relationships with everyone who matters…I’ve lived it over and over again in every aspect of my life….and still, at times, I had to sit and THINK about what I have to be grateful for in each new day.

I started this 30-day blog-challenge to get me writing again, writing on one of my favourite topics no less. Writing has always been one of my passions, so this forced me into the daily consistency of it! For that I am grateful to be back on track. As much as it was work to write daily, now that I am on the last day – day 30 – I am struck by how much more I want to write about…how much more I AM so very grateful for – my family, my husband, my career. But in the end I choose to write about what I am grateful for every single day and that is LOVE.

MacGrgeor Family Kim MacGregor Madison MacGregor

Love in all it’s forms. The way it shows up and pulls us through. Love for choice and change, for people and passions, for moving forward and for standing still to catch your breathe. I am grateful for the way love fills my heart and makes it feel electric and alive. Sometimes that happens when I hear my girls laughter through the day, beside me. Sometimes I feel it when I am laying in bed at the end of a day and I feel my husband wrap me in his arms, sometimes it is the grand realization of all the freedom and choice I have worked so hard to create in my business and the overwhelming sense of gratitude and LOVE I feel for all of it.

Gratitude, which is really another word for love, is something I take the time DAILY to look for, to think of. Because if I don’t, it is easy to get caught up in the speed of the day, the demands around us, the tasks that have to be done and forget to see the beauty and LOVE around us that we have to be so grateful for. Gratitude…LOVE…is a daily MUST.

So today, as I wrap up this 30 days of gratitude challenge, I commit to continually live in a state of gratitude because it FEELS so good! Because it creates such magical change. Because it is GROUNDING and LIFTING all at the same time, to the soul, to the heart and to all that matters. It’s not always about what we GET, it’s about HOW WE FEEL and gratitude and LOVE just feel so darn good!

If you don’t have a regular gratitude ritual that you do daily, I highly recommend it. It will change everything about your life. I’ll be writing on that more in an upcoming blog!!!

Thanks for following this – there are MORE great revelations to come.

Day 29 of 30 days of gratitude…beautiful memories!

I just got 6 – 8MM high definition video cartridges back after being converted to DVD’s. These 6 videos are from 17-18+ years ago when our first born, Maddie, was a baby and just learning to talk and walk.

EMOTIONAL? You bet!

I cried from these beautiful memories that make me realize that time goes by waaaayyy to fast! A reminder to savour the moments and spend as much time with our loved ones as we can, and of how precious my baby girls have always been to me!

Maddie cried-feeling a sense of gratitude for the love she has always been surrounded by.  Seeing herself as a baby and toddler and watching what were the beginnings of a wicked sense of humour, a fiery determination in everything she does, a beautiful free-spirit full of imagination and creativity all made her feel a deep sense of gratitude as well.

Gratitude is just one of this magical things that grounds you to your core and reminds you of what is truly important!

Today, I am ever so grateful for beautiful memories (and old home videos)!!

Oh the JOYS of getting older

This weekend my on-again, off-again hot flashes kicked in to full gear…AGAIN. At the hair dresser…under foil…getting my highlights done…while drinking a cup of hot tea!
YIKES!!!
My face and neck turned cherry-red as the wave of heat came over me. I opened the robe that protected my hair from my clothes and put my tea down. The young hair dresser asked if I was okay and when I told her what was happening, she jokingly commented, “Oh the joys of getting older.”
This made me stop and think.
Maybe because it was ONE day after, what should have been my friend Erika Heller’s 39th birthday, but she only made it to 31. Maybe it’s because my dear friend Rhonda is the same age my mother was when she passed away at 53 and I realize, just how young that is.
And in that moment I replied, “You know what, I will take it all. The aging, the hot flashes all of it because aging is a JOY and a privilege.”
We live in this YOUTH obsessed world and we fear aging, but truly what is it we fear so much? The GIFT of getting our life RIGHT? The GIFT of WISDOM? The GIFT of getting more time with our loved ones? The GIFT of watching our children AGE and grow? The GIFT of aging well and graciously? The GIFT of more time to LOVE, FORGIVE, UNDERSTAND? The GIFT of more time to HELP others as we develop consciously? The GIFT of seeing our DREAMS come alive?
Aging IS a privilege…a GIFT…and a JOY!

Truly!
Despite the hot flashes (and many other changes that come with being 47), it’s what’s going on inside that really matters. And I can tell you inside, I have a great sense of appreciation for every single day I have. In fact, although I am older than I have ever been (LOL)…I am happier, I feel better and more at peace with everything in my life. I am surrounded by amazing women, who are vibrant, awesome and changing the world for themselves and others. Perhaps this is the new story we should be sharing.
So the next time you think, “Oh the joys of getting older” (with a sarcastic undertone) – flip it to “Oh the JOYS of getting older!” (with an undertone of gratitude).
At the end of the day, it beats the alternative by a landslide.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Never stop believing one person can make a difference… that one person is YOU!

I have your back!

As we were getting ready for bed last night I heard one of my twin daughters say to the other, as she was about to close her eyes and wash her face over the sink, “Ava, put your hand on my back please.”

To which my other twin, without a moments hesitation, walked over and put her hand on Elle’s shoulder as she washed her face. This was the first time I had heard and seen this and it stopped me in my tracks to ask what it was all about.

“When we close our eyes to wash our face at night, we get scared, so every night we take turns putting our hands on each others back so we know someone is there watching out for us.”

I smiled at both of my girls and gave them a little hug and as I went off to bed. I couldn’t help but think about what a deep and meaningful gesture this little moment I witnessed was. Many people spend a lifetime looking for “that person” who will always “Have your Back” and here are these two special girls, who are that for each other.

Ava and Elle MacGregor, I Believe She's Amazing

This is more than a “twin-thing” or a “sister-thing” it’s a “CHARACTER-thing.” I am sure that over the course of their lives, they will be that for many more people: friends, partners and children. May we all find that person we can count on to have our back in a moment of need, may we all RECOGNIZE and express our gratitude when we DO FIND that person, and may we BE that for many people in many different situations over the course of our lives.

Life’s beautiful little moments leave me in a state of awe for love and for humanity.

Ever so grateful for the many amazing people I have been able to count on over the years.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Should I get genetic testing for breast cancer…or NOT? (plus join me for a breast cancer fundraiser)

We just celebrated Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. The leaves are changing. The sun has been brilliant and warm. I made fresh soup (lots of it). My husband and I cleaned and organized the house in preparation for our first move from our home of the past 19 years (more to come on that – super excited!). And we shared some valuable “family-time” out of our daily nine-to-five routine. What could be better…honestly!

I have so much to give thanks for.

Love. Family. Dreams-coming-true. Good health.

Ah yes, good health…a place my thoughts have gone to a lot lately. Partially because of the other significant thing that October represents…breast cancer awareness month.  When I was 16, I didn’t know much about cancer and certainly didn’t know you could be diagnosed with cancer in your “breast.” How bizarre!

One year later, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was only 41. Awareness was limited then, not at all like the “PINK” phenomenon we know today. Since that time, while breast cancer awareness has increased rapidly, the disease continues to rear it’s ugly head in my family and across the globe, as the most common cancer in women worldwide.

Since my mother was diagnosed, four of her five sisters have been diagnosed with breast cancer, along with three of her first cousins.  (My mother died in 1997 from a secondary cancer, colon cancer, which was diagnosed 12 yrs later). Crazy as it may be, I never considered genetic testing “seriously” until this year, as my mom’s youngest sister continues to undergo treatment.

With all the news about Angelina Jolie’s choice to undergo genetic testing and a subsequent double mastectomy, combined with my maternal family history, my sister and I have been asking the question, “Should I get genetic testing for breast cancer or not?”… A LOT lately.

I have always been of the mindset, that even if we were to get the testing done, and it revealed that we carry the gene, it is still NOT a guarantee that we WILL be diagnosed with breast cancer in our lifetime. Feels like an exercise of fear of, “what if” something happens.

But then there is the other side of the debate, prevention, which I think about. I’m still young. I have three little girls, a hubby, a growing business and a long bucket list of accomplishments still to be realized…the thought of being slowed down by this disease and the inconvenience it would create is less than appealing. No two boobies are worth that.

Reading up on it only offers more confusion with countless arguments both FOR and AGAINST it as an effective prevention of the disease, and many experts still labeling it as extreme and unnecessary in many cases.

So the question remains…to test or not to test?

Of course it doesn’t end there, testing means that we have to give some thought to what we do with the results.

It’s a BIG old complicated issue, but as with many other women with a strong family history of the disease, like mine, it’s the elephant in the room. I’m thinking about it. I’ll keep you posted as to my next steps and would love to hear your personal experiences.

In the meantime, I’ve created a little fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, called AMAZING YOU! I’d love you to join us for an afternoon that will inspire and empower women to live their most AMAZING life, while having fun, and helping raise money for a good cause.

Oh Beautiful July – you are the perfect month to start again!

In fact, today is the birthday of my dear friend Erika Heller. Inspired by her life and love, she is the person who sparked this global grassroots movement, I BELIEVE SHE’s AMAZING. We successfully launched the YouTube Video that has travelled the world and reached close to 2,000,000 people (WOW so incredible to think it happened from my kitchen table with NO social media experience). We have delivered an inspirational quote on our Facebook page every day since this campaign was launched three years ago. I now understand the breadth and depth of what we have created and how much joy, purpose and meaning it has brought myself and so many others around the world. Grateful beyond words for this soul-centered endeavor that helped give “meaning” to such a sad loss.

Erika’s death, at just 31 years of age, is a reminder that we are here for a short time and the importance of doing what we love, following our hearts, connecting with others, living our life to the fullest, and above all believing in ourselves. And so with that, I am kick-starting this blog with weekly and honest updates on how to live your most amazing life. Because, truly, at the end of the day, isn’t that exactly what we are all striving for? Magical discoveries and opening up to what our true calling is.

I am on this journey with you, finding our way through life and all it’s multi-colored moments. I have so many amazing life experiences to share. I hope that what you find here helps make YOUR journey a little easier. I was originally planning to take this community to the next level behind the scenes then share it with the world once everything was done. But that would only delay this journey even more, and I cannot wait any longer, so I will unfold it as I go and share with you along the way. I am working on so many exciting things, I cannot wait to grow with you and live our most AMAZING lives together in this space.

This is a place to be re-ignited, to find guidance in life and in business. It is a safe haven for you to learn to love yourself, your life and to find gratitude in all you do (things I have learned and continue to fine-tune). For all those of you who have ever felt that you are destined for more than what you are currently doing; if you have felt overwhelmed, disappointed or confused by where to start and how to transition into a new life; if you have wondered what the next step was or how you got so far off track; if you are longing to live your most AMAZING LIFE ever in every aspect-health, love, career and wealth-than welcome to this community.

I Believe She’s Amazing is a community of like-minded people on a mission to live their most AMAZING life, to blow past fear and commit to living FULL ON. It is a community that recognizes and acknowledges the AMAZING people in our lives, in the moment. A group that lives in gratitude, inspired by one another, rooting each other on and sharing in each others unique journey at all the magical points where our lives intersect.

Like you, I am a work in progress. We are ALL a work in progress, thankfully, cause that is our reminder that we are alive. And what a gift this life is. I am so excited for this next step to unfold. Kim MacGregor I Believe She's Amazing Award winning Author, Inspirational Speaker

You ARE enough!

Uncover the mirror and stare at yourself for just a moment.Norman Rockwell's Girl at Mirror. I Believe She's Amazing Kim MacGregor
Silence your inner critic when you do this…this is the point.
See ALL that you are.
Unique.
Beautiful – in a way that ONLY you can be.
Unlike any other – and that’s the way it SHOULD BE.
Just stare in quiet reverie for all that you have done. For every painful, joyful, difficult, laughable, lovable experience that has brought you to where you are this very moment and know this to be REAL and TRUE – YOU ARE ENOUGH!

Shhhhh. Silence your inner critic. She’s trying to laugh at you, to tell you what is wrong and where you lack. Tell her, “NOT now. This is my moment thank you very much.”

You are enough.

You are enough of whatever you think you are not. The notion that you need something more, or something less, to make you whole is just a lie that’s being sold to make you feel inadequate.

Do NOT buy in to it? You are smarter than that.

You are enough to start something new.
To change what isn’t working.
To love and be loved.
You are enough to own this moment as your very own moment to shine.
You are enough to create something for the whole world to see.
You are enough to make a difference.
For heavens sake you already do.

You are enough!

Take off the HOLD button that has you paralyzed with fear, that has you convinced that you need to wait UNTIL you are enough. Press PLAY and RECORD at the same time and START. Do not wait one more day to play big in your own life. Because the truth is this…you ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH.
This IS your life now. What are you waiting for?
Whatever you don’t know YET, you WILL figure out as you go. Isn’t that what you have always done?

Now look at yourself again. Do you see something different?
Do you see potential?
And possibility?
Do you see brilliance and creativity?
Do you see that what you have right now is enough?

Is that little voice of doubt getting more distant?
Silence her with stronger, bolder words.
With thoughts that serve you.
Silence her with ACTION and PLAY.
Silence her with TRUTH.

Look at yourself and repeat…
I am enough.
I AM enough.
I – AM – ENOUGH!

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Never stop believing one person can make a difference…that one person is YOU!
